Atrofia progressiva de retina em cães: uma revisão de literatura.

Abstract

With the increasing number of dogs and cats in the world, as well as the life expectancy of these, the senile and hereditary diseases are increasingly common in routine veterinarian. The progressive retinal atrophy is a disease increasingly present today, and is closely linked to cases of secondary cataract in some breeds of dogs. It's important to know the primary method of diagnosis for this disease, electroretinography, races involved, forms of the disease as well as clinical signs presented in order to avoid unnecessary surgical interventions, since the disease has no treatment, and advise breeders of purebred how to perform the control of the herd to prevent the spread of this disease. The objective of this study was to conduct a literature review on the different types of progressive retinal atrophy in dogs.
