Resumen:
Goats were one of the first animals to be domesticated by man. At the
Brazil goat farming is of socioeconomic importance and is concentrated in the Northeast region.
Parasitism caused by gastrointestinal helminths in the semiarid region
constitutes one of the biggest problems for the production system. The products
herbal medicines are used as an ecologically correct alternative to control
population of these gastrointestinal parasites, among these products is the Pie
Neem (Naturalnim®), the active ingredient of Azadirachta indica A. Juss (Neem) is azadirachtin which has anthelmintic action. The Momordic charantia L and a plant
creeper, originating in eastern India and southern China, among the various constituents of the
fruit there is the charantine that have medicinal activities and among them is the anthelmintic action.
Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the physiological response of goats
submitted to anthelmintic treatment with neem cake (Naturalninv) and
Momordic charantia in a semi-arid environment. Twenty-four male goats were used,
aged between six and 12 months, No Defined Racial Pattern and naturally
infected with gastrointestinal helminths. The goats were divided
randomized into four groups, containing six animals each (Group 1 - each animal received
2g of neem cake daily, orally, for 60 days; Group 2 - each animal
received lg/kg of live weight of M. charantia bran, for three consecutive days with
intervals of 4 days, for 60 days; Group 3 - each animal received at the beginning of the
experiment the dose of lmL/10Kg of body weight of Ivermectin 1%®, orally, dose
only; Group 4 - the animals did not receive anthelmintic treatment, serving as
control group, however the animals that showed clinical signs of parasitosis or
OPG above 500 received a salvage dosage (drug). The samples of
blood samples were collected on day zero and 30, 60 and 90 days post-treatment to perform
of hematimetry, leukometry and serum biochemistry (Total Proteins, Albumin, Gamma
glutamyltranspeptidase (GGT), Aspartate aminotransferase (AST), Creatinine and Urea).
Although there was no significant change in any of the variants, it was observed
mean values different from the reference values for this species, concluding that
the treatments evaluated in this experiment did not cause physiological changes in the
goats used.
