Abstract:
Energy consumption is an important indicator of economic development, due to its large demand in industrial, commercial and other service sectors, but there is a concern about the future availability of natural resources. Because of this, sustainable development alternatives are being heavily invested, which can be evidenced in the public sectors with the concern of the socio-environmental responsibility of their businesses. Amid the need to adopt sustainable and efficient practices in public organizations, the following work has the objective of evaluating the energy efficiency of the Federal University of Campina Grande and conducting an economic feasibility study for the autonomous production of photovoltaic solar energy that meets the demand of the institution, since it is believed in the feasibility, from the economic- financial point of view, for the high investment in the construction of autonomous plants of renewable energy. The methodology used included NPV and IRR as analysis tools for economic-financial modeling and simple math methods for the other objectives. Achieving the proposed objectives, it was possible to verify that with a more elaborated study for the installation of the renewable energy plant there would be a possibility of more efficient results for the production of photovoltaic energy, as well as the high investment to supply all the energy demand of the UFCG would be feasible, reaching a payback in just over five years, so it is assumed that the feasibility study is, in fact, viable and quite positive, both in the financial and environmental sectors, for the institution.
