Resumo:
From the conception of language as interaction, jointly realizations in specific contexts and
defined objects, this study has as main objective to analyse the conceptions of language
and slang of teachers from the high school, as well as to verify the attitudes from these
conceptions and their influence in the teachers' methodology. To make possible, this work
was leant in theorical reflections returned to the matter of classroom (Koch, 2004;
Erickson, 2001; Brait, 1995; Dettoni, 1995; Bakhtin, 1995: Delamont, 1987), from the
puritain vision of language, its history and consequences for teaching (Bagno, 2003, 2002,
2001, 1999; Leite, 1999; Bortoni, 1995) and the slangs researches (Preti, 2004, 2000,
1998, 1996). To the execution of the presented research, we selected twelve teachers
from the high and middle school of a private establishment of Campina Grande - PB, of all
the subjects that take part of the basic teaching. To collect the piece of informations, we
opted to go by the semi-structured interview and to detect the slangs presence on their
speaking, in which moments they were used and which functions they had. The results
showed a puritain conception of language by the teachers, as the slang use, belonging to
the youngs, ugly, delinquent, reflex of lecture and vocabulary absences. Despite the
puritain language conception, the teachers used slangs in their classes for different
purposes: to approximate their pupils, to discipline and facilitate their knowledge. However,
in spite of the observed usages, remained in the teachers universe the methodological
work eliminating the slans with this, set up a conflict between the conceptions and the
effective uses by the language of the teachers, stimulating the slang maintenance in the
place of delinquency and exclusion, reinforcing the puritain vision of language from the
teachers.
