Abstract:
The purpose of this work was to analyze the productive and educative profile of forty families
from a rural settlement, called Maria Paz, located in the city of Sao Jose de Espinharas, semiarid
region at the State of Paraiba, Brazil. The research made an analysis of the true situation
and problems of the settlement. The data were collected from the Plan of Settlement
Development made by the National Institute for Colonization and Agrarian Reform (INCRA)
as the first information of the reality of the settled families. The document has all social and
production information from the settlement which attempted to evaluate the number of settled
people, nuclear family, schooling level, performance of the agricultural and herd productive
system, as well as financial support. The results propose that the settlement reflects the same
social problems of other Brazilian settlement and keeps the same logical production.
