Résumé:
Chitosan and Cissus verticillata (L.) Nicolson & C.E. Jarvis present physico-chemical and
biological properties with potential for therapeutic use in the treatment of skin wound repair.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the tissue biological response in Wistar rats to the
implantation of chitosan-based biomembranes associated or not with Cissus verticillata (L.).
The tissue response was analyzed by histomorphometry in the subcutaneous tissue of the dorsal
region of the rats. In the biocompatibility test, chitosan membranes were used without plant
extract (MQ0%), with 5% of vegetal extract (MQ5%) and with 20% of vegetal extract
(MQ20%) in times of 7, 15 and 30 days. The histopathological study considered for the analysis
the inflammatory reaction (intensity of polymorphonuclear cells, mononuclear cells and
multinucleated giant cells of the foreign body type) and the repair process (granulation tissue
and young fibroblasts). The results showed significant for inflammatory infiltrate, granulation
tissue and young fibroblasts. To the 7th day was moderate inflammatory infiltrate in all
membranes at 15 ° days the granulation tissue is scarce for all MQ0% with reduction to MQ5%
and on the 30th day. MQ20% presented moderate and scarce fibroblasts in 30 days for
inflammatory infiltrate and granulation tissue. Thus, all membranes were considered
biocompatible without causing abnormal tissue changes. It is concluded that the membranes
modulate the inflammatory phase and stimulate the proliferation of fibroblasts, and thus, they
can be applied to aid in the tissue repair process.
