Resumo:
This literature review aimed to construct a theoretical reference on the relationship
between nonphysiological deviations of the cervical spine and functional and static
alterations of the occlusion, correlating the studies in two different currents of
thought: authors who found a positive relation between occlusion and posture and
authors who deny the relationship between the two factors. The same was done from
September 2017 to June 2018, prioritizing articles written in Portuguese and English
and had as inclusion criteria those published in magazines and books that addressed
the themes: malocclusion, body posture, cervical spine and that demonstrated
scientific studies. The exclusion criteria were: incomplete articles and articles in a
language other than English and Portuguese. The searches were conducted in the
Google Academic, MEDLINE (PubMed) and Scielo databases. The selection of the
articles comprised the following terms: "malocclusion", "bad posture", "cervical
spine", "body posture", "malocclusion" and "cervical spine" combinations were made
between the latter to carry out the research. Although widely discussed, the
relationship between poor posture and functional and static deviations from occlusion
is still quite controversial. As there is no scientific evidence yet to deny or confirm this
relationship, we suggest more specific studies to ensure the veracity and applicability
of the results found.
