Resumen:
Maxillary sinus lift surgery is one of the main alternatives for implant installation in
the region of molars and upper premolars in patients with insufficient amount of bone.
This procedure had only been performed with conventional rotary instrument and has
as main complication the rupture of Schneider's membrane. With the advancement of
the technology in odontoly, a system has emerged that promises to cut only the
mineralized tissue, preserving soft tissues such as nerves, vessels and even the
Schneiderian membrane. In this study, we revised the literature in order to make a
comparative analysis of the use of the piezoelectric apparatus with conventional
rotary instruments. To do so, a search was made for scientific articles to clarify the
issue addressed published between 2007 and 2018 and accessed in the PubMed
(MedLine) database. Complete scientific articles on "piezosurgery and / or maxillary
sinus lift" were used. We found 1259 articles of which 19 were selected. According to
the review, the results were favorable to the use of the piezoelectric system for the
maxillary sinus lift procedure. The piezoelectric device has advantages such as
better visibility of the surgical field, decreased bleeding, lower bone temperature
during operation, lower membrane perforation rate, longer transoperative period,
greater speed of bone regeneration, reduction in soft tissue damage, decrease of
stress for the patient during the surgery, besides minor edema and postoperative
pain. For the observed aspects, it can be concluded that the use of the piezoelectric
device has favorable results for the maxillary sinus lift procedure.
