Resumen:
Present study aimed to evaluate the clinicopathological profile of 65 cases of oral
squamous cells carcinoma of tongue (OSCCT) recorded in a hospital, that is
reference for cancer treatment, located at João Pessoa, Paraíba, Brazil, by mean of
cross-sectional analysis. Results were analyzed through descriptive study and
Fisher´s Exact Test (p ≤ 0.05). Data related to age, gender, skin color, habits, TNM,
presence of metastasis, histological grading of malignancy, type of treatment and
clinical outcome were collected from files. The majority of cases exhibit average age
of 65.5 years old, were male (n = 43; 66%), black (n = 29; 44%), smokers (n = 31;
48%), TNM grades III and IV (n = 35; 54%), with metastasis (n = 31; 48%) and high
grade of histopathological grading (n = 43; 66%), treated through the association of
surgery and radiotherapy (n = 19; 29%), and the disease remission in five years was
the mains outcome (n = 46; 71%). Among all studied variables, metastatic cases of
OSCCT showed significant association only with histopathological grading (p =
0,001) and the clinical outcome (p = 0,001) and, thus, it can be concluded that the
presence of metastasis in initial diagnosis is an important factor for prediction of
patients prognostic.
