Résumé:
The bucomaxillofacial traumas constitute a public health problem since, they affect
indiscriminately the life of the population. This cross - sectional study aimed to
evaluate the prevalence of buccomaxillofacial traumas according to the year, months,
days, hours and affected areas of patients attended by a Buccomaxillofacial
Traumatology Service, Deputy Janduhy Carneiro Hospital, in the city of Patos, in the
Sertão of Paraíba. This cross - sectional study had an inductive approach with
comparative statistical procedure and research technique by direct documentation in
the field. The universe consisted of all hospital records obtained from January 2016
to December 2017 of patients attended by the Department of Buccomaxillofacial
Surgery and Traumatology of the Deputy Regional Hospital Janduhy Carneiro in the
city of Patos, Paraíba, with a sample of 332 selected medical records. Data collection
was performed by two previously calibrated examiners, who selected the charts and
tabulated the information together. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially.
Regarding the year, more than half (53.9%) of the traumas occurred in the year
2016; the independent months of the year with the highest frequencies of trauma
were December (13.6%) and September (11.7%). The most frequent days of trauma
events were Mondays (22.6%) and Sundays (16.9%). Regarding the location of the
traumas, the middle third of the face was the most affected corresponding to 21.4%
of the traumas. By means of inferential statistics with a margin of error fixed at 5%, it
was verified that the face region influenced the image examination requested for the
diagnosis of the fracture (p = 0.002).
