Despite the availability of several effective antimycotics for the treatment of oral candidiasis, failure is not uncommon, due to the unique environment of the oral cavity, where the saliva flushing effect and oral muscle cleansing action tend to reduce drug concentration. to sub-therapeutic levels. Available treatments range from adequate oral hygiene, topical and systemic therapy, in addition to other possibilities such as chlorhexidine-based clinics, herbal medicines, photodynamic therapy and the prospect of developing future vaccines. Therefore, dentists must be prepared for the correct diagnosis and treatment of oral candidiasis.
