Resumo:
In this dissertation we studied the ironic perspective in Carlos Heitor Cony's
chronicles. The analytical path was led as follows: the first chapter approaches the
characteristics of chronicles, not only concerning Literary Theory and its degree of
literariness, but also the view of Journalism and, consequently its journalistic
referential. The second chapter remarks the irony from its Socratic origin which
considers it as an attitude -as well as the rhetorical perspective that considers it as a
figure of speech. In the third chapter, I introduce the author and analyze four of his
chronicles. In the fourth chapter, I observe the concept of irony inherent in five different
Portuguese textbooks, applied in Brazilian high schools, evaluated and recommended
by the Ministry of Education in accordance with the analysis of the catalogue of the
national program of textbooks in high school (PNLEM/2006) From this analysis , I
present methodological suggestions to work with Irony , as an attitude, through
Cony's chronicles .
