Resumen:
Malocclusions are multifactorial cause, determining its etiology contribute to the correct
diagnosis and treatment.Diastemasare defined as absence of contact between
neighboring teeth, considered physiologicalin the deciduous dentition that tend to close
with eruption of the permanent canines. The upper lip brake has the function of limiting
the exaggerated movement of the lips and prevent excessive exposure of the gums. In
the development of occlusion tends to decrease in size and position, if it remains
between the central incisors may be the causative agent of the diastema and will be
called the ectopic labial brake. The presence of ectopic brake and interincisivediastema
result in aesthetic problems, phonetic, periodontal disorders besides disorders in
chronology and occlusal position. Lateral incisors are little described in the literature as
impacted teeth, when mentioned, the authors point out that mechanical barriers are the
main cause of this impaction. The use of orthodontics to treat this etiology is still
necessary to bring this element into the occlusion. The purpose of this work is to solve
interincisivediastema, whose etiology was the ectopic labial brake, to the examination
of ischemic traction. The diastema precluded the eruption of the upper lateral
incisors. The proposed treatment was the association: Surgery and Orthodontics with the
technique of Phrenotomy and use of Removable Orthodontic appliance with hooks. It
was concluded that the Phrenotomy Technique reinserted the ectopic labial brake
maintaining its anatomical characteristics and enabled the use of removable orthodontic
appliance with hooks closing the diastema, which ensures space eruption of the lateral
incisors.
