Resumo:
The objective of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy of low intensity laser in
the control of postoperative pain in patients submitted to simple exodontia, at the
Clinical School of Dentistry of the Universidade Federal de Campina Grande, Patos-PB.
Sixty (60) patients were randomly divided into three groups. After surgery, all groups
received laser application and medication to be taken, dipyrone sodium (500mg), group
B, paracetamol (750mg) and group C, placebo medication. Pain measurements were
performed in the immediate postoperative period, after 24 hours and 7 days. The data
obtained were tabulated in the program Bioestat 5.0. The Kruskal Wallis test was used
with a significance level of 95% to evaluate if there were significant differences
between the groups. Regarding the results, when comparing group A and B in the first
24 hours and with 7 days observing the characterization of the scores, a greater efficacy
of dipyrone sodium on paracetamol was demonstrated. In the group C scores, where the
laser effect was evaluated after 24 hours and 7 days, a significant efficacy was observed
in pain reduction. Statistically there were no significant differences between groups. It
was concluded that the laser presented no statistical difference in relation to dipyrone
sodium and paracetamol, however, it demonstrated analgesic efficacy when the pain
scores were characterized, evidencing that it is a viable therapeutic alternative for
greater postoperative comfort of the patient.
