Genetics is the basis for understanding life in terms of the characterization of the planet's biodiversity, the functioning of living beings, the transfer of inheritable characteristics, as well as being the basis for the generation of biotechnological products and for the bio-economy. However, teaching and understanding genetics issues is still a challenge for teachers and high school students. A relevant didactic tool is the construction of conceptual maps as a facilitator of Teaching-Learning. The general objective of this work was to interconnect the genetic contents applicable to High School, through a conceptual map. The execution strategy involved the selection of traditional and current issues involving genetics; The analysis of the knowledge of third year high school students of three basic education schools on selected subjects, involving genetics and the use of conceptual maps; And the elaboration of conceptual maps from the selected subjects. The students' previous conceptions about Genetics subjects were limited to traditional themes involving DNA and RNA, having interconnected around 10 themes of the 26 studied. The great gain of this work was the availability of two conceptual maps involving traditional and current topics on the molecules of genetic information. The maps interconnect the characteristics of the molecules of the genetic information, where they are found and their functions as the manifestation of the stored information and the transference to new cells or new organisms. In addition, it connects the impact of genetics on life, on the generation of biotechnological products, contextualizing the changes, diseases, evolution, speciation and biodiversity. The maps can be applied to students and teachers of High School as well as to Higher Education.
