Resumo:
The adipose body of the cheek has been used as a graft for the closure of intrabuccal defects, such as fistulas and bucosinusal and buconasal communications, reconstructions after tumor resection, rehabilitation of fissured patients, aesthetic correction of the face, treatment of oral submucosa fibrosis and implant grafts. The objective of this work is to make a brief review of the literature on anatomy, function, scientific studies and surgical techniques of the aforementioned structure. The study
consists of a review of the literature, for which it was carried out the collection of scientific data on the subject in international and national dental databases such as: PUBMED (www.pubmed.com), SCIELO (www.scielo.org) and LILACS (www.bireme.br), there were no restriction of periods for the research and were found of the 34 articles on the proposed topic. It concludes that the adipose body of the cheek
is a structure of easy localization, used in resolution of several complications in the oral cavity, as in the facial harmonization.
