Perfil de crianças atendidas na Clínica Escola de Odontologia da UFCG: condição de saúde bucal e fatores associados.

Abstract

The educational institutions are committed to meeting the demands of the users who are looking for them, and should be prepared to solve their problems. Objective: to evaluate the profile of the children attending the Dental School Clinic of the UFCG. Material and Method: We assessed the medical records of children from 2 to 12 years who sought dental treatment from November 2012 to June 2017. Demographic data, reasons for the appointment, eating habits, status and oral health care were evaluated, and after analyzed were, being submitted to a significant chi-square statistical test at the 5% level. Results: Of the 137 medical records evaluated, 58.4% were female, with ages between 7-9 years (45.3%) and students from public schools or daycare centers (61.3%). Dental caries were the main reason for the demand for care (27%), with dmf-t and DMFT index rates varying from 0 to 15, with a mean of 6.18 (± 4.5) and 5.17 (± 3 , 4) respectively, and regular oral hygiene in 55.5% of the cases. Conclusion: The identification of treatment needs and the planning of activities with emphasis on oral health promotion and prevention are fundamental actions for the study group, allowing not only the improvement but also the control of oral diseases.
