Resumen:
This work aimed to develop and evaluate chitosan beads/Dysphania ambrosioides (L.) Mosyakin & Clemants (mastruz) for application as biomaterial. The plant species was collected, botanically identified and used to obtain the crude alcohol extract. It was used the Ionotrope Gelation method in order to obtain the chitosan beads and chitosan with crude alcohol extract of Dysphania ambrosioides (L.) Mosyakin & Clemants. After the beads preparation; Three groups of them were formed, a group of pure chitosan; One of chitosan with lower concentration of crude alcohol extract and another of chitosan with higher concentration of crude alcohol extract. They were characterized by Optical Microscopy (OM),
Compression and X-ray Diffraction (XRD). The OM showed darker beads as it inserted crude alcohol extract. The XRD showed that the crystallinity of the beads increased as crude alcohol extract addition was higher. Regarding the compression, it was observed that the addition of a smaller amount of crude alcohol extract caused a decrease in the compressive extension of tensile strength and time in tensile strength, while the addition of a higher amount of crude alcohol extract caused the increase of these measures. It was concluded that it was possible to develop beads of chitosan/Dysphania ambrosioides (L.) Mosyakin & Clemants (mastruz), increasing their crystallinity and coloration as crude alcohol extract was added and the addition of crude alcohol extract influenced some of the values of the compression test.
