Resumen:
In recent years, the search for surgical procedures aimed at improvement of facial contour has
gained scientific evidence and well accepted by patients and professionals in the medical and
dental field. the buccal fat pad, formerly of boule de Bichat, has been employed for the repair
of soft tissue defects of the facial region, with acceptable results and rare complications.
Recently, the removal of the buccal fat pad (called Bichectomy), aiming at a reduction of
repetitive trauma to the oral mucosa and therefore an improvement of facial contour has been
widespread. the objective of this study was to present the description of two surgical
techniques used to remove the buccal fat pad, emphasizing the possible surgical complications
and the degree of patient satisfaction. They were operated on ten patients of both genders,
with a mean age of 25,2 years, and removed an average amount of 4,14 / 4,19 ml of buccal fat
pad. the degree of satisfaction of patients undergoing surgery was satisfactory. Removing of
the buccal fat pad is a simple, fast and the incidence of complications is limited, and provides
satisfactory results.
