Résumé:
Analysis of facial typology using the Ricketts Lateral Cephalometric Measurement and the facial morphological index. Introduction: in the literature, several are the classifications used for the determination of the types or facial patterns, based on morphology and the growth pattern of the same. On characterization of facial growth, which occurs in the vertical and horizontal direction, are described three basic facial types: dolicofacial, mesofacial and braquifacial. The long face or dolicofacial features vertical growth pattern, lower third of the face. The average face or mesofacial is characterized by facial pattern medium, thirds of face balanced. The face short or braquifacial is characterized by facial growth, lower third of the face. Morphological evaluation of the face can also be performed from the Anthropometry directly or indirectly. Objective: to evaluate the agreement in diagnosis of facial typology patients in orthodontic treatment, through lateral cephalometric analysis of Ricketts and Facial Morphological Index. Methods: 60 individuals over 18 years were evaluated by means of Anthropometry, by performing Facial Morphological Index to achieve the facial type, and lateral analysis of Ricketts, in what was considered the amount of vertical growth of the face (Vert). The results were statistically analyzed by means of weighted Kappa coefficient. Results: there was a poor agreement in determining the facial type obtained by two methods. Conclusion: Anthropometry, although it is an important resource in determining consolidated the facial type from the facial width and height, not found agreement with the values of the index Vert Ricketts analysis.
