Resumen:
Nowadays, Brazil has some hundreds types of different marbles and
granites. The processing of granite rocks blocks to obtain ornamental rocks
produce a great amoint of wastes in form of mud, generally constituted of water,
lime, iron oxide and grounded rocks. Under adjusted conditions, these materials
can be reused, decreasing in this way, the consumption of the natural resources
and the necessity of treatment to disposal or elimination of the wastes, and so,
there is the decreasing of the produced risks, and can also give utility to a
material, nowadays without economic value. It is really important to change the
concepts and the implantation of politics that can conciliate the rational exploitation
of the natural resources, with the development of new technologies. Preliminary
studies, looking for the utilization of these of wastes, can confirm, in a satisfactory
way the use of these products in the industries of sand lime bricks. Sand lime
bricks are construction materials obtained by mixtures of sand, small portions of
lime and sufficient water to form bricks by pressing and cured in an autoclave. This
work is based on the use of granite sawing wastes in the production of sand lime
brick to use in civil construction. Characterizing tests was conducted: particle size
distribution, chemical analysis, distinguishing thermal analysis, gravimetrical
thermal analysis and x-ray diffraction, and physical-mechanical determinations
according to ABNT. In the diverse compositions (wastes-sand) and using wharf
calciticas and dolomíticas, was observed that in the samples with hidróxido of
calcium Ca(OH)2 the mechanical resistências were superior. Pointing out the
substantial growth of the resistance to the other used wharves, to the measure
that, magnified the period of cure. The results corfirm that is possible to use the
granite wastes with sands in the production of sand lime bricks.
