Resumo:
This study aims to identify, through review of scientific literature, the main prevention
methods of oral cancer, screening the surveys about malignant and potentially
malignant oral lesions. To that end, it realized a bibliographic study of the data bases:
BVS and Pubmed, using keywords: "Mouth Diseases", "Screening" and "Oral Cancer /
Prevention" in the period from 2005 to 2015. According to a review conducted. The
Prevention Programmes against oral cancer still have faults on its execution. The Oral
Cancer Prevention have been made, basically, through orientation for elimination or
reduction of tobacco and alcohol consumption, and exposure of UV rays, in lower lip
cancers, in order to early detection and treatment of oral lesions, together with actions of
primary prevention-based health education that also stand out as an effective method of
cancer prevention. Screenings programs for malignant and potentially malignant oral
lesionswere consider as an effective method for early diagnosis of oral cancer, however,
screenings programsare unusually reported on literature. Because that, they were
researched studies that examined the prevalence of oral lesions as prevention method of
oral cancer. The results indicated that the oral cancer and potentially malignant lesions
occur more frequently in individuals do male gender, above the sixthdecade of life,
tobaccoand alcoholusers, or when these factors are combined. Among potentially
malignant lesions, the leukoplakia is more often found in the oral cavity.
