Abstract:
Before performing surgical procedures, is necessary to observe the general health condition of
the patient, paying attention to the clinical conditions that can inspire special care, as
hypertension and diabetes mellitus. Objective of this study was to evaluate the conduct of the
dentists the Basic Health Units in the city of Patos, Paraíba, in front of the clinical and
surgical care of patients with hypertension and / or diabetes. Two models of questionnaires
were developed, one subjective and the other objective, containing both, six questions of the
same knowledge content. Initially the subjective questionnaire, followed by the objective
questionnaire was applied. The data were submitted in the light of descriptive statist and Chisquare
test and Fisher's exact with 5% significance. In a universe of thirty-nine dentists, the
sample has to be made up of thirty-six professionals of both genders. It was found that most
respondents obtained knowledge considered unsatisfactory, with 61.1% and 86.2% of errors
in objective and subjective questionnaires, respectively. There was no statistically significant
association in the responses obtained in the two types of questionnaires. It was concluded that
the evaluated dentists have no adequate knowledge for conducting clinical care and / or
surgical treatment for patients with hypertension and / or diabetes mellitus.
