The use of Information and Communication Technologies has been stimulated by
UNESCO, however concerning to the offering of content in Brazilian Higher
education it still remains underused. The use of video is widespread and well
accepted and they can be presented as single video or series of videos,
characterizing the podcasts. The aim of this study was to evaluate the offering of
video content by the health courses of the Brazilian Northeast and understand how
short and long videos, concerning basic histology, offered freely on <youtube.com>
are used by the users. It was used the list of courses obtained along the Minister of
Education website to access and evaluate of the 789 health courses of the region.
After, videos created and published. 21 months later, the patterns of use were
observed using the YouTube analytics tool. It was observed that the majority of the
courses did not offer instructional videos on its website and that when offered, videos
were done via referatory. In addition, it was observed that long videos were viewed
preferentially; and also that short videos were capable to better retain users attention.
It was possible to conclude that videos are interesting teaching tools, since there is a
significant search for it, that short videos are visualized more completely, and also
their utilization on Brazilian Northeast health courses is still minimal.
