Resumo:
The loss of teeth is accepted by society as a natural consequence of aging, due to the lack of
control of caries and periodontal disease, resulting from different biological factors,
behavioral and psychosocial. Some functions such as speech and chewing are compromised
leading the individual to have a lower quality of life, because are affected the aesthetic and
psychological patterns of the individual. The complete denture returns to individual
edentulous your chewing ability and a pleasing aesthetic to society's standards. The objective
of this study is to analyze the impact caused by the use of complete denture, checking the
aesthetic satisfaction of the users, masticatory efficiency self-perceived and the existence of
discomfort with use, the instrument used for data collection was the questionnaire OHIP (Oral
Health Impact Profile). The search qualitative, descriptive, randomized, was performed by
interviewing the sample of 50 volunteers from the School Clinic of Dentistry, UFCG. Data
were analyzed using SPSS, among respondents 74% were female and 26% male, there was a
median of 62.50 years of age of the users and a time of use of prosthesis 41, was found also a
moderate effect of time of use with the aesthetic dimension and social with the discomfort,
showing that the longer the time of use, more complaints in these areas, the results showed an
even higher prevalence of female complaints about social aesthetics, while men masticatory
efficiency. Based on these results, it is concluded that the female is what most search oral
rehabilitation and demonstrates a greater concern with the social contact and with the
aesthetic, while males show greater concern about the masticatory efficiency, and this factor
is a key point for successful treatment and subsequent patient satisfaction.
