Resumo:
The liver is vulnerable to a wide variety of metabolic, toxic, microbial,
circulatory, and neoplastic insults. The main primary liver diseases are viral
hepatitis, alcoholic liver disease, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and alcoholic
hepatocellular carcinoma In the case of the parotid salivary glands like other
salivary glands are sites of inflammation or neoplastic development, emphasizing
that the parotid gland is responsible for the increased production of saliva and
thirst for higher incidence of injuries. A possible relationship between liver damage
and injury of parotid was first described by Sprinzels in 1912 and since then few
studies have been conducted in this regard, mostly restricted to case reports over
the years. We performed chemical induction of liver damage in rats with the use of
carbon tetrachloride substance and make possible a correlation of liver damage
with secondary damage involving parotid glands, for performing a histopathological
analysis that both the liver as the parotid gland. This research consisted of a
descriptive histopathology slides stained in hemtoxilina-eosin (HE) of changes in
parotid gland in rats with chemically induced liver injury through of carbon
tetrachloride (CCl4), being used for this study 15 male rats (Group Test) and one
control case. This study found the relationship between liver disease and the onset
of parotid glands, though larger studies are needed to deeper verification about
this correlation.
