The objective was to recognize the elementary school teachers' knowledge level of the
particular network in the city of Patos-PB on the immediate assistance to victims of dental
trauma. This is a cross-sectional study with 138 teachers in 36 schools registered with the
National Institute of Educational Studies Teixeira. Data collection was performed by applying
a structured questionnaire about the immediate conduct the child after dental trauma. Data were
analyzed using descriptive statistics and bivariate inferential (chi-square test). The age of
teachers ranged from 19 to 60 years and the majority were females (96.4%). Asked about the
experience with first aid dental trauma victim, only 16.7% said they had already obtained some
experience. Of these, 43.5% had it by attending to the victim. Most respondents (85.1%) agree
that in all cases of trauma the dentist needs to be consulted, but only 36.9% of the sample
believes that only the trauma with full alveolar tooth displacement brings unfavorable
repercussions. Front avulsion, 44.2% of teachers would brush the tooth and then seek the dentist
and 77.5% of respondents believe that the time for patient care victim of avulsion should be as
fast as possible. The results suggest that most of the interviewed teachers do not have enough
knowledge on how to proceed in cases of dental trauma, having not received this training or
have received little information about it.
