Resumo:
This review aims to analyze, by the reading of the literature, the risk ratio between the obesity and periodontal disease. The periodontal disease is a infectious chronic disease that may lead to the defacement of gum tissue and teeth lift tissue. A lot of coefficients as: sectional, systemic, environmental and genetic modifiers could aggravate the progression and extension of this disease. The obesity is a chronic disease of multifactorial origin, and it fits as one of the systemic modifiers that may worsen the periodontal disease. The studies show that there may be a risk ratio between obesity and periodontal disease, and that this ratio can be explained by the inflammatory cytokines production and liberation mechanisms through the adipose tissue and the rise of the cytokines levels on periodontal tissues, that may lead to hyperinflamation seen on periodontitis.
