Resumo:
This thesis deals with the soil stabilization of adobe with sisal vegetable fibres. Four soils of different places in Paraiba State: Joao Pessoa, Campina Grande, Areia e Taperoá were selected. Caracterization tests, chemical tests and differencial thermal analyses of the soils were made. The mechanical properties of soils and soil - fibres mixtures were determined in specimens tested to compressive strength, in order t o evaluate the parameters that will be utilized in the bricks. In order to ensure durability, to the bricks that will be submited to water action, lime and emulsified asphalt additives were used. Brick durability tests were done based on wetting and dryng in two différents ways. The water absorption and dimensional variation of the bricks over time wwere verified. Considering that not every type of soil available " in situ " is appropriate for this constructive process, It was shown the possibility to make a correction of its properties, making mixtures with other kinds of soils. Therefore, bricks were also made with différents soil-fibre mixtures.
Moreover, it was investigated the antique tecnology utilised by Persa Civilization. This consist of placing the mixture in rest during certain time before making bricks. The period used was 30, 60 e 90 days.
