Résumé:
The objective of the present work was to analyze the influence of attapulgite - a fibrous clay -, as a reinforcing filter for high density polyethylene (HDPE), which is a liner thermoplastic polymer. The influence of varying processing temperatures and times on the mechanical properties of the HDPE/attapulgite composites as a function of composition (0, 10, 20, 30 and 40% w/w filter content) were investigated. The results obtained show that attapulgite may be classified as a reinforcing filter to HDPE since the composite's mechanical properties (tensile strength, hardness and elastic modulus) increased with filter content.
