Abstract:
The urbanization of slums without removing the population of their habitat is an efficient way
to generate positive impact on the urban environment. Accordingly, this study aims to
determine the magnitude of socio-environmental impacts of the urban intervention occurred in
Pedregal III and IV. The specific objectives are: 1) to diagnose the levei of education,
employment and income of families, 2) to know the levei of community organization, 3) to
identify whether the urban intervention improved the access to health, the disposal of waste,
the basic infrastructure and quality of life of families. The methodology used was the
structured interview. In general, it is concluded that the urbanization of Pedregal III and IV,
designed and financed by the Municipal Government in partnership with the Federal
Government and the BID, have brought benefits to the population, creating quality of life and
promoting socio-environmental changes in that area.
