Diabetes Mellitus (DM) has stood out as one of the most relevant Chronic Non-Communicable
Diseases (NCDs) today and its prevalence has grown a lot over the last decades due to several
factors such as sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy eating habits, predisposition to genetics and
others. As a consequence of these facts, there is a prevalence of overweight, obesity and
hyperglycemia that contribute to the emergence of NCDs. DM is one of the most important
health problems nowadays that can be described by the increase in glucose in the bloodstream,
which is known as hyperglycemia. Therefore, the present study aims to evaluate the profile and
food consumption of elderly people with Type II Diabetes Mellitus in the city of Cuité located
in the interior of Paraíba - PB, through a Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) to assess
consumption. participants' food. The study was characterized as a prospective cross-sectional,
observational clinical type, involving diabetic elderly people aged ≥ 60 years, from August
2018 to July 2019. The study was carried out with 103 participants, of which 19 (18.45%) were
elderly and 84 (81.55%) were elderly. By analyzing the frequency of consumption of foods of
the two genders studied, it was possible to identify statistical differences in the food groups of
milk and dairy products, meat and eggs, snacks and canned goods, cereals and legumes and
vegetables. The consumption of the other food groups was practically the same when compared
between males and females. In this way, it was possible to analyze that the dietary patterns of
the research participants are healthy, since low consumption of the most fatty foods was
reported.
