Resumo:
This work deals with obtaining and mechanical characterization of high-density (HDPE) and medium-density (MDPE) polyethylene composites loaded with mineral fillers such as calcium carbonate and attapulgite. The effect of a load modification with silane coupling agent as well as the influence of mixing time on the mechanical properties of composites were investigated. The load levels used were 10, 20, 30 and 40% and the mechanical properties evaluated were: tensile strength; modulus of elasticity and hardness. It was evident that attapulgite (fibrous mineral filler) is a reinforcing filler for polyethylene and that treatment with silane agent improved polymer/filler adhesion.
