Resumo:
The cowpea has great nutritional and economic importance in Brazil, more precisely in the
Northeast. The same has a culture of easy adaptation and is tolerant to drought periods.
However, when attacked by pests such as Callosobruchus maculatus, its grains show great
loss of nutritional value and germination value. The presence of the weevil is most frequent
during the grain storage. However, the use of chemicals to combat this pest can cause
environmental damage from the poisoning of applicators. So no need to study substances of
plant origin to combat this pest, and the search for plant extracts with insecticidal activity is a
relevant strategy.
