Abstract:
The intra-aortic balloon (IAB) is a mechanical sport of cardiac assistance (DMAC), of temporary applicability, used to increase the flow of blood in the arteries of the cardiac muscle (coronary arteries). The BIA is mainly indicated for assistance in cases of left ventricular failure and cardiogenic shock (inability of the heart muscle to supply adequate debt to the body's needs). BIA control systems monitor the patient's condition, calculate a performance index, and continuously apply a control algorithm capable of bringing the system to an optimal operating point. To assess the physiological correctness of BIA operation, control systems typically look at diastolic pressure levels. The present work proposes a methodology based on 0D models that allows evaluating the association of pulsatility indices in the qualification of physiological performance related to the use of BIA. The results obtained suggest that the PP, DP and EEP Pulsatility indices can be used to generate control options in line with the clinical objectives of the BIA.
