Resumen:
Lettuce is a leafy vegetable most consumed in Brazil, she being the favorite among both olericultores who cultivate the field as they grow in a greenhouse. The objective was to evaluate the growth and development of lettuce varieties under different environmental conditions. The experiment was conducted at the Technology
Center of Natural Resources, Federal University of Campina Grande, located in the city of Campina Grande - PB, between June and August 2011. The experiment was conducted in two environments in the greenhouse (AMB1) and field (AMB2). The varieties used were: Crespa Verde (VAR 1) and Vitória de Verão (VAR2). In each plot 60 plants were used, 30 Crespa Verde and 30 Vitória de Verão. According to the
results of growth parameters were: plant height, canopy size, leaf number, leaf areaand fresh weightwas higher AMB1 in both varieties, with dry weightdid not differ for any treatment. However in the study of the varieties cultivated in the same environment the results : The VAR1 showed higher plant height in both environments, the size of the canopy was higher in AMB1 for VAR1, but in AMB2 no significant difference between varieties. The number of leaves only significant
difference in AMB2 where VAR2 had higher amounts of leaves. The number of leaves only significant difference in AMB2 where VAR2 had higher amounts of leaves. Leaf área and fresh weight did not
differ statistically. In the VAR1 AMB1 obtained greater dry mass, now AMB2 varieties did not differ. The greenhouse energy offered the best conditions for growth, development and yield of two varieties.The absolute growth rate(TCA) cycle for VAR 1 and VAR 2 was higher in an AMB 1. AMB 1 and in a second AMB 2 was in the highest TCA a VAR 1. The relative growth rate (TCR) for a VAR1 was higher in the AMB 1, the VAR 2 was higher in the AMB 2. The higher percentage of water in plants was found in a greenhouse. Among the varieties VAR 2 had higher percentage of water in the two environments. In the greenhouse both cultivars had anticipated the cycle.
