Resumo:
The development of knowledge about plants is closely linked to self-development of humanity and of
life in society , not only as food but also as a source for the treatment, prevention and cure of
diseases. The aim of this study was to identify the level of knowledge of high school students on the
use of medicinal plants. An ethnobotanical study of medicinal plants used by students at the High
School Monsenhor Manuel Vieira by applying a questionnaire with 14 questions for 36 students of the
1st, 2nd and 3rd grade of high school was conducted. It was found after the administration of the
questionnaire, the students know, use medicinal plants to treat various diseases and its use was
influenced mostly by their family, friends or neighbors. The best-known plants by students were 12%
Bilberry (Boldus peumus) and 11% Lemon (Lippia alba). Finally, the need and student interest in
addressing this issue in the classroom was observed, as well as propagate the use of herbal and
proper handling, its approach in the classroom exalt the importance of preserving the flora
(Environmental Education).
