Résumé:
Mathematics teaching is one of the main bases in the formation of citizens prepared for the current
world, considering that it is an important area but with many difficulties in this process. The
History of Mathematics as a knowledge construction tool came as a means of encouraging,
motivating research and expanding the way of understanding the concepts and applications of
mathematics, showing that mathematical knowledge did not occur in a linear way and that it went
through a process of transformation social, temporal, economic, cultural construction, etc. Thus,
the teaching-learning process can become more significant when it contextualizes mathematics
with various branches of knowledge, using historical knowledge to show that mathematics is a
humanistic and cultural science, where by our needs it emerged, developed and arrived to be what
it is today. Our work was based on a bibliographical research approaching some aspects of the
use of mathematics as a pedagogical tool. We conclude that the teaching-learning of mathematics
based on the transmission of historical knowledge can bring students closer to an interest in
mathematical knowledge and lead them to reflect on future learning.
