Abstract:
In this work four irradiance estimation techniques will be discussed, compared and tested
for use as photovoltaic module monitoring tools. The estimation techniques studied are
based on the simpliĄed photovoltaic module model, a one-diode Ąve-parameter model,
as well as a modiĄed model in which the modelŠs anti-parallel diode is replaced by an
external control current source. For all selected irradiance estimation techniques, information from the photovoltaic panel manufacturerŠs data sheet is required, as well as
voltage, current and for three of the four estimators, temperature measurements. For
the measurement and acquisition of voltage and current data, two diferent equipaments
will be used, these being PROPFITEST PV and SolarModule LED-Flasher. Throughout
this work will be present the estimation results obtained for the four irradiance estimators
considering two photovoltaic modules of diferent models (Astronergy ASM6610P-260
and KYOCERA KC130TM) under normal operating conditions and subsequently using
the KC130TM panel under the induced shading condition. At the end of this work the
obtained irradiance results will be expressed under two diferent error metrics, in order
to identify the irradiance estimation technique whose results are closest to the measured
irradiance values.
