Resumen:
In recent years, the generation of solid waste in Brazil has increased, surpassing the population growth in Brazil. When investigating the environmental impact of urban solid waste (MSW) and the current inefficiencies in the management of this waste in several municipalities, new and adequate alternatives need to be found and implemented to improve management and efficiency. This study aims to investigate the main challenges and perspectives on the practice of composting urban solid waste in Brazil, taking into account scientific publications that guide the theme, identifying the main challenges for the dissemination of this practice and thus describing the main perspectives on the dissemination of a better approach to composting in the country. One of the main problems of solid waste in the country is related to the inadequate management of organic waste, large volumes of this waste, high levels of environmental pollution and high costs of adequate disposal are still insufficient to identify strategies to overcome the technical, administrative and political limitations that were not effectively implemented by national authorities, in addition, there is a lack of research on inter-municipal cooperation that provides a qualitative analysis of the legislation that regulates it to draw broader conclusions and how it relates to specific contexts.
