The objective of the present work is to present the Escolinha Leia Sambatuck Football Club as a history of social inclusion in the city of Cajazeiras, in Paraiba, during the late 20th century, considering sport as a physical exercise practice and as a mechanism for building citizenship. Our central idea was to elaborate a history of the little school, thinking it as a social project capable of offering citizenship education to young people from Cajazeiras. In Brazil, football is taken as a symbol of national identity for being a sport of great social and economic appeal. Because of this cultural importance and the economic impact, it causes, football has become a dream of socio-economic ascension. In this way, the soccer schools gained prominence for being places of opportunity for children and adolescents to learn the sport and show their soccer skills to businessmen in the sector, consolidating themselves in the sport and changing their lives and their families. Therefore, from the perspective of a social history of sport (PEREIRA, 1998), we sought to analyze the role of the Escolinha Leia Sambatuck Football Club in order to promote social inclusion for children and adolescents in Cajazeiras. In methodological terms, we developed the research through oral history, based on the guidelines of Delgado (2010), when we interviewed the founder of the school and some of its former students.
