Resumo:
This research starts from a religious movement of faith and devotion to a great leader of the Catholic Church in the north east region, considered, by many, as a holy man, popularly known as Frei Damião, thus analyzing a phenomenon that happened in his statue in the city of São José da Lagoa Tapada-PB, which was one of the main points that led me to this research. The research aims to analyze the existing faith and devotion to the Frei, as well as his figure before
society, seeking to present the main reflexes of this exaltation to the Frei. As a theoretical basis for this work, I rely on authors such as Aguiar (2000), Azzi (1994), Blondel (1997), Sousa (2011) e Cruz (2010), who helped me to establish more accurately this research on this Frei who had most of the of his life destined to evangelization in the northeast region. As a methodology, I will work from the assumptions of oral history, through interviews with residents of the locality, since the facts that occurred are still present in the memory of the people of the city, thus enabling the interaction of the social environment with the research.
