Agricultural irrigation has become increasingly valued among agricultural producers, because this technique supplies the water demand for crops in periods of drought, especially for the Northeast region of the country, bringing productivity to crops in times of difficulty. This technique has been explored by researchers to bring more productivity to the field. In the present work, traditional irrigation methods are reported along with the advantages and limitations of each method and their general considerations, as well as the concept of automatic irrigation. Automation in irrigation is an increasingly present practice, where we can talk about automatic localized irrigation, through the Arduino platform, in which the water is directed directly into the root region of the plant in an automated way, according to the environmental conditions the system provides. water resource in adequate amounts. Based on the research carried out, the objective was to carry out a survey of important information about irrigation methods in the literature, seeking to highlight how to properly manage irrigation and demonstrating the technological use in this sector of agriculture, in order to provide important information about the irrigated agriculture. The research was carried out on websites, Google Scholar, TCCs, academic books, library collections from several universities, EMBRAPA website and Revista Brasileira de Agricultura Irrigada. Based on the knowledge of several authors, it is observed the great importance of managing irrigation as well as the appropriate system for the culture, there are numerous advantages for the producer when using the right technique, in terms of productivity and soil conservation. When thinking about sustainable and precision agriculture, knowledge of soil moisture is of great importance, and in this context, irrigation management enters as a preponderant factor, as the supply of water to crops in the appropriate amount becomes more important. efficiency, as long as their water needs are known. In this context, the Arduino platform emerges as an efficient and sustainable solution in the irrigation process.
