Résumé:
The improper disposal of waste is an old practice that causes significant damage to the
environment, and its presence is common mainly in municipalities that have open-air
dumps, where waste produced in the city is destined, which puts at risk the environment
and public health. In this research, it was aimed to assessment the environmental
degradation process in the landfill area of the municipality of Parelhas-RN. In the
methodological development, georeferencing of the study area was carried out, a survey
of human activities, an environmental diagnosis of the area, the identification and
analysis of the environmental impacts caused by the dump, through the Ad Hoc
methods, Check Lists and Interaction Matrix, the identification and typology of
environmental degradation and the proposition of environmental control measures.
Based on the results, it was possible to notice that the biotic and anthropic
environmental components were the most impacted and degraded, mainly affecting the
soil, water and the social environment. Among the proposed environmental control
measures, the following stand out: the deactivation and closing/closure of the dump, the
removal of solid waste and the surface layer of soil, the elaboration and implementation
of environmental education programs, solid waste management plans by public and
private companies and organizations and, mainly, the Integrated Solid Waste
Management Plan in the municipality of Parelhas-RN.
