Abstract:
In this thesis, the main objective is the improvement of controlled switching techniques for transmission lines with series compensation from the evaluation of the different operating conditions of the series capacitor bank (BCS) during three-pole reclosing maneuvers of transmission lines, highlighting the challenges and potential of such application. An advance in relation to the current literature is presented in this work, in which the main series compensation settings are evaluated in order to address the impact of the BCS operating conditions on the residual load of the line. For this, digital simulations with a 500 kV electrical system are performed in the Alternative Transients Program (ATP). It is verified that some existing techniques of controlled switching developed for uncompensated lines and with shunt compensation can be applied in lines with series compensation. Furthermore, a new method for lines with series compensation only is proposed in this work. The method is based on estimating the residual load of the line using a recursive digital filter to correct the secondary voltage of the capacitive potential transformer (TPC). According to the results presented, it is possible to have controlled maneuvers of lines with series compensation, guaranteeing overvoltages smaller than 2.0 pu.
