Resumo:
The objective of this study was to seek information about the problem of solid waste management, the use of inappropriate places for the final destination of waste and identification of the environmental impacts caused by the disposal of waste in the São Bento dump - PB, detecting the socio-environmental processes that are characterized in the surroundings of the dump. The research was based on digital satellite images, site visits, photographic records and a bibliographic survey. A simplified environmental diagnosis was developed through field visits, bibliographic research and the use of photographic documentation. To assess the environmental impacts, the Ad Hoc, Checklist and Interaction Matrix methods were used. Based on the study in the scientific and technical literature, environmental control measures were proposed. According to the results, 27 negative environmental impacts were observed, being 10 very significant, 15 significant and 2 not significant. Proposals were made for mitigating and preventive environmental management measures, with the objective of reducing impacts and contributing to the complete completion of the disposal of solid waste at the dump site, as well as the complete removal of waste that still exists at the site. Environmental plans and programs were proposed to monitor identified impacts and environmental control measures.
