Résumé:
Urban problems caused by the current city model have brought complex socio-environmental
damages to humanity. In the search for a mitigation of these damages, several methods and
concepts have been created in a perspective based on the environmental balance in the urban
environment. This perspective is called sustainable cities, this model has been much debated
and expanded in order to find ways to achieve a better balance between social issues and nature
in the city. Other nuances related to the urban issue have been presented, making it important
to deepen the knowledge between their relationship with sustainability. Among these nuances,
there is the concept of urban hospitality, which is not born with the intention of being a basis
of support exclusively for sustainability, but which has very close points of convergence.
Hospitality has been a topic that has been debated for millennia, and takes with it different
contexts in its conceptual structure, which are religious, social, anthropological, philosophical,
economic, tourist, urban, and even virtual. The urban aspect, above all, discusses how the city
receives its inhabitants and visitors, what are the structures offered to these people in the urban
environment for them to take place. Understanding the points of convergence between these
two themes will broaden the debate on sustainability in the city, bringing new concepts and
models of an ideal city. Giving light to this understanding and relating them to urban indicators,
which are tools established in studies and urban planning, can be configured in a methodology
that helps in an urban strategy that aims at a sustainable and hospitable city. With all that in
mind, the research proposes a model of urban hospitality indicators system, based on
sustainability in the city. The qualitative method was applied. After the bibliographic survey
and the selection of the main authors of urban hospitality, themes that relate to their ideas were
selected and later related to indicators related to sustainability and urban development. For the
application of the model, the city of João Pessoa was chosen. Thus, the values of the indicators
were from the city. After establishing the values, which are in a quantitative way, their
evaluation took place in a qualitative way, being discussed in a unitary way, giving greater
scope to the result. Through the evaluation of the selected indicators, it was noticed that the city
of João Pessoa is not a hospitable and sustainable city, that it is important that the city adapts
its public policies aiming at environmental balance and hospitality for its population.
