The contextualized grammar is the grammar of uses whose analysis focus is the text. So, from this perspective, this research aims to demonstrate the use of imperative verbs in advertisements as a way to work the contextualized grammar at the Portuguese language classes in the 9th grade of elementary school. Therefore, we reflect about the importance of contextualized grammar at the Portuguese language classes; we analyzed the use of verbs in the imperative form in the advertisements according to the functionalist theory; and we also developed a didactic proposal aimed at the study of imperative verbs in advertisements. That way, this investigation is essentially based on the functional theoretical contributions of language by Neves (2001, 2018), also considering Cunha (2010) and other authors who defend this theory; in studies about the teaching of contextualized grammar with Antunes (2007, 2014); in the studies of textual/discursive genres by Bakhtin (2000), as well as in the theoretical contribution of the Didactic Sequence procedure with the studies of Dolz, Noverraz and Schneuwly (2004). This work focuses on applied research methodology, with a qualitative approach. The research universe is based on the advertisements that present imperative verbs. From this universe, we chose three advertisements as the corpus. The category of analysis, a priori, were the imperative verbs presents in the advertisements. And to look objectively to that category, the criteria were: to identify the function of imperative verbs; importance of imperative verbs to achieve the communicative purpose of the advertisements; and the relevance of these verbs to the composition of the genre. As the result of this investigation, a Didactic Sequence was elaborated for the contextualized work of verbs in the imperative form presents on the advertisements
genre.
