The debate on the formation of readers is always accompanied by many questions about what kind of reader you want to form. Thinking about the training needs of literature readers in the exclusion environment, we have performed a reading experience with female authors of poetry, with women in prison at Women's Penitentiary of Campina Grande, through reading workshops. The research was motivated by the following questions: Are there literary reading spaces in the Women's Penitentiary of Campina Grande? What are the spaces available? How do they work? Does the space favors the interaction between text and reader? Does the public has access to what kind of literary reading? We define the general objective: helping the reader formation of the women prisoners in the Women's Penitentiary of Campina Grande/PB, using poems of the female authors. The specific objectives of the research were: investigating what the reading spaces available in Women's Penitentiary of Campina Grande; checking if these spaces assisted in the formation of the public reader; proposing and conducting reading workshops. Data analysis was made from the reception of literary works selected, by the research participants. Our work is based on the discussions developed from the aesthetics of reception [Jauss (1979) e (1994); Iser (1996) e (1999); Pinheiro (2007) e (2012); Cosson (2014); Jouve (2002, 2013) e Rouxel (2009, 2012, 2013 e 2014)], as well as reflection on prison education in Brazil [Barros (2009), Boiago; Noma (2012)] and lyric poetry [Carpeaux (1999), Cohen (1974) and Staiger (1975)]. The data collected showed that the participants were able to experience the poems through the enjoyment aesthetic categories aisthesis, poiesis and katharsis discussed by Jauss. Indicating that they experienced sensory and conceptually the aesthetic experience. The results showed that the working methodology favored the process of literary work updated by the readers, helping to achieve the stated goal. The literary works selected for consideration during the
workshops were poems from the books: Dois em um, Alice Ruiz; Cecília de bolso – uma antologia poética and Antologia poética, Cecilia Meireles; and Amargos como os frutos, Paula Tavares.
