Resumen:
Inadequate waste disposal has gradually increased, causing numerous changes in the
environment. In a society increasingly influenced by consumption, the absence of a
correct management of solid waste has numerous impacts on ecosystems and affects the
health and well-being of the population. In addition to influencing socioeconomic
activities, aesthetic and sanitary conditions of the place. Therefore, this research aimed
to develop actions based on environmental education in order to minimize negative
impacts from the lack of solid waste management in the municipality of Areia-PB. The
research was implemented from the Dynamic Model of Construction and
Reconstruction of Knowledge, MEDICC, which comprises a set of methodological
strategies that allows the realization of the educational process for the environment in a
dynamic way. Thus, the construction of an organic garden was carried out, the use of
edible vegetable oil used to produce soap and the beginning of the implementation of
selective collection in the municipality, as well as the organization of recyclable
material collectors. Data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively, using
triangulation, a method that consists of quantifying and describing the data obtained. In
this way, carrying out activities related to environmental education in the municipality
was the way to promote changes in the way of disposing of waste through guidance to
residents and permanent collection of local public authorities.
